Maybe Microsoft, from the perspective of anti trust or anti competitive actions? It would seem this would be rich in data, and interesting too. It combines legal issues along with business ethics. I would search just that term, Microsoft anti trust. I know for a fact, as a criminal justice student, that they have been convicted of such. Once you find something interesting, it usually leads to even more terms to search and ideas to explore in your paper.
I dont know if I am missing the mark about what is needed. But I would explore the legal problems they have had as a result of their monopoly, and then explore solutions to violations in the future that would be viable to their market and profit margin.
Hope this gives you an idea.

Other possible ideas... Oil refinery violations of OSHA (search metaire lousiana, there was a big violation there with resulting loss of life/health) and the problem of compliance in the industry.

Why certain regulatory commissions are/are not necessary, and how to address the resulting problems regarding them. (IE... the EPA should do such and such... or the FDA shouldnt regulate such and such).

Again, good luck, and hope this helps to at least brainstorm. If you need any help, let me know. ANd happy new year...

ps... editing this to say I like the fast food industry idea above too. Couldnt we find a way to recycle and better use such waste, especially in view of the people going hungry? Hmm... if nothing else, we should all be stimulating your imagination!!!!

Hmm. OK. Fast food establishments. Burger King in particular. You notice that they are throwing away dozens of food items per day. Every time a customer orders something that isn't prepared exactly to specification, it is tossed. The same goes for any food item that is made in advance and isn't purchase within a certain time frame. What if anything, would you propose to do?
