Kubla Khan had ordered 4,500 ships built to attack Hakata Bay-Japan consisting of two fleets to be built within a year. Considering that the Samurais were able to repel the Mongolian attacks and forced their retreat to stay onboard, the shocking truth is if you look at the magnitude of their arsenal, they possessed the highest technology at that time ( flame throwing shrapenel missles), and they should have devestated Japan.

The mongols had some 60,000 men and Japan was severely outnumbered. It was documented in scribed writings that the Japanese prayed to their Gods to destroy the enemy and its equally interesting to note that such a retreat was a result of their demise " Typhoon - or ''The Divine Wind'' aka Kami Kaze - the wind of God which destroyed both fleets. Call it pure luck or an act of God but hey....what a fricken coincidence!

Noteworthy, it was not just the devestation of Kubla Khan's Ships only, it was the turning point of his rule over all of Asia !! if you look at the Mongols today, they still remain poor stricken and the avg person lives on less than 2 us dollars a day. It seems that the curse remains with their people till today.

Yes, the "kami Kazi", Divine Winds--except I thought they destroyed 3 armadas of Kubla Khan in 1281+. The term was then applied to the suicide planes in the Pearl Harbor attack in '41. The Divine Winds were supposed to destroy American strength.

The date, December 8th was significant also to the historical past--when American Admiral Peery forced Japan to open to foreign trade after a thousand yrs of isolation. I think that was on December 8th, but due to the Japanese planes having to cross the International Dateline, they struck Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7th.

The Mongols lost two fleets off the coast of Japan. I beleive both were lost to typhoons, or at the very least they were severe storms.
