We really do seem a rare breed. Guess that's why it's called alternative music. What's your fave band? Me: Incubus.

Thanks for your answers - you've reminded me of a few bands like Seether and 3 Doors Down that I haven't paid much attention to, lately. Nice to know there's other Incubus nuts out there. I just found them on MySpace, so you can tell 'em yourself that you think they're great, if you want!

PS Some of you might like Josh Pyke (Aussie artist, also on MySpace) if you like some of the slower, acoustic sort of alternative stuff.

For me the concepts of "alternative" and "mainstream" have blurred over the last few years. These two groups are not so distinct anymore - and I'm more convinced than ever having read over some of the answers. I tend to like both kinds, but then in some cases I'm really not sure what falls into what category these days!

Current likes/loves - The Butterfly Effect (love!!!!!), Eskimo Joe, Gotye, Josh Pyke, Little Birdy, Jose Gonzalez, Foo Fighters, System of a Down...

I like alternative music, but I'm 44 so I don't know if that counts. I like a lot of different bands Faith No More, The Offspring, Incubus, etc. But then I also like a wide variety of Music with my favorite bands being System of a Down, Nickleback, Nine Inch Nails, Buck Cherry.....There is a lot of good music out there.

The remember the name people, it is ALTERNATIVE...why are you all naming main stream bands. The same suggests bands that have not yet been heard of. All the bands mentioned are of interational fame...it is no longer alternative, it is now...commericial.

well you really need to define alternative music. are you going with how they label themselves ore are you going by how the record labels and radio stations label them. to me incubus is a mainstream band and in no way "alternative".
