Speaking in truth and listening to the truth can be equally difficult in varying situations. I love truth and am willing to speak it and hear it...cos' I know that only truth will move me forward and raise me out of stuck places............
Truth burns and heals equally...It burns when the ego is involved and heals when empowerment is involved........

Yes I consider myself open to hearing the truth. My job requires me to search and tell the truth to customers, and I have seen in them my own reactions to the truth: denial, shock (feels like a splash of freezing water), disappointment and anger, sadness, doubt. But I have learned to be grateful when I hear the truth. I don't get as much emotionally affected as before because I accept the truth to learn from it, and I move on. A few times, the only feeling that still affects me when I hear a truth is suspicion and doubt, maybe because not all things are 100% true or because I must see it to believe it.

I doubt that anybody ever always speak the truth. There will always be times when we lie for one reason or the other. And being open to hearing the truth is quite different to how one handles it because as the old cliche goes - truth hurts.

Considering the fact that there are times when truth is a matter of perception I am not always open to hear a persons truth.
For instance a Muslim perceive his religion to be the truth, while I as a Christian feel that my religion is truth.

Have you heard the story of "The Whole Elephant"? several "wise" men are tested. Blindfolded, they touch the object (the elephant), but because of their limited experience, claim it to be something different
touch the tail = call it a rope
touch the leg = a tree
touch the ear = a fan
etc
science looks for TRUTH that governs the body
religion / philosophy for the TRUTH that deals with mind, spirit, heart, emotions
both are true, and we would be leading a much more limited life if we favoured one at the expense of the other

I almost never answer in this section and I don't know that my answer will be representative of anyone elses. Sometimes some people have claimed that I won't listen to their opinion. That has never been true.
I will listen to another persons opinion but if the opinion they share is some sophomoric flight of fancy that is completely illogical and/or has been proven many times to be far from the truth, I will explain why they are incorrect but I won't waste my time listening to further fanciful speculations.

Yes, i feel that the truth is the best way to go. Id rather someone be truthful with me, even if it hurts than to sugar coat everything and send me thru life thinking something other than what is correct, or for me to find out later and feel like an idiot.

It is at least my intention to speak and hear the truth.
Why? To be in accord with reality is going to be a better thing at least most of the time. One needs to work with comforting or comfortable lies with extreme care.
But you skip one significant problem:
how is the truth to be recognised? One truth that we all need to bear in mind is that believing something is the truth does not by itself constitute solid grounds for it being so.
It is quite possible to be utterly mistaken.

I love the truth, the hard part is finding someone who's opinion you really trust to tell you the truth....or for that matter, to first get them to listen.

I admit that I answer alot... and I don't get many top answerer questions.... but the little that I do get show me that at least I have gotten through to someone or someone equally thinks like I do.....
But, i am a fool.... I don't know it all... and so, I will listen when the time is right..... it's the only way to learn a matter........
It is seldom that a student can teach a teacher anything.........
