I have a 2002 Chevy Avalanche and I got caught in a bunch of snow the other day when I got stuck and had to fight my way out of it with the four wheel drive. All of the sudden since then my power steering is extremly hard to use. Could the snow have gotten caught up in there and caused the fluid to freeze? The weather has not got warm enough yet for me to find out.

No. It's more likely the snow knocked a line off.

No, power steering fluid is like transmission fluid and cannot freeze. Put your vehicle back in 2 wd and turn the wheel back and forth, while driving, sometimes the wheels get locked and hung up when they were in 4wd low.

No it won't freeze. It will get thicker but not freeze. There is not a lot of snow and ice packed in the front drive of your 4X4. If you have snow and ice frozen up in the steering mechanism it might affect your steering.

You may have a bunch of frozen ice underneath the car affecting the steering. It never hurts to siphon out the power steering fluid occasionally and add new.

Did you take your truck out of 4WD after the snowstorm? If not it will steer harder due to the front drivetrain in motion causing a larger turning radius and harder steering effort. If the vehicle is not in 4WD you may have a foreign object i.e. ice a stick or something in the path of the steering linkage under your vehicle.

No, power steering fluid is an oil based compound. you can substitute tranny fluid for it but not vice-versa. It would take extreme conditions to freeze it.Sounds like you may have damaged your drive line.
