That it's always a grandfather and his grandchild walking the length and breadth of Japan fighting the bad guys in order to save mother, father, brother or sister. They never have any money, never work or go to school, seem to always find hospitable places to stay with people they don't know. And then every monster, fiend, demon or whatever known to man woman and child or even unknown attack these people and they defeat them without weapons only using their martial arts skills and their minds?

Japanese culture has a different foundation of family and social behavior in history.
The Grandfather represents age and wisdom which he is passing on to the new generation.
The lack of Money and School/Career is based on 2 things the lack of money represents the ability to over come hardship and the poverty of the normal people if you werent part of the royalty and government you were nothing. The childs education is from his elder, and the old man lives from knowledge and self ritiousness. The hospitality is part of the Giesha type culture and helping your fellow man. If you know anything of Buddism your mind/knowledge is considered limitless in power. They are also "borrowing" many Pagan themes in Anime. Demons, Mind powers, such as telekenisis. It's a combo of the two.

Hey, Robobby. If youre going to nerdbash someone. At least nerdbash them with a more better subject to correct other than correcting the person since they said Japanese cartoons. It's intolerable.

But to answer. I dunno what animes you watch that have those themes. But ive never encountered something like that. But i can give you a close answer on why.

In Japan. It is natural to respect your elders. They have lived and endured alot of things through the harsh times and are quite wise from this. Those shows you mentions. The creators just wanted to praise this respect in any crazy way possible. Please update in a detail on what anime is this. I think i just may look in on it.

FYI, "Japanese cartoons" are called anime (japanese animation). And you must not have much experience with anime because your statement is completely wrong.

Anime isn't " always a grandfather and his grandchild walking the length and breadth of Japan....". Sure, there may be some anime that has some of those elements but anime can have detailed and extensive storylines. Many movies/series have subplots, suspense, horror, comedy, romance, etc. Just as there are all kinds of live action movies, there are all kinds of anime.

One of my favorite series is Fullmetal Alchemist (which is a VERY popular anime). It's about two brothers who learn the ancient art of alchemy and when their mother dies, they try to use alchemy to bring her back to life. It doesn't work and they suffer the consequences and endure great loss. The remainder of the story (51 episodes and one movie) is them trying to gain what they've lost. That anime is FAR different than your stereotype of "japanese cartoons".

There are different kinds of stories in anime, I like the originals stories, not the same thing over and over again. The same thing happens in american cartoons, they do the same stuff over.
