In reading of American History(you said "President" so I'm assuming you mean American Presidents) you will find that American has been very lucky in our country's leaders. ALL of them were exceptional men. As for performance in office, then the answer changes. Of the 43 Presidents America has had, there are 3or 4 who(if given the chance) would have been great men at any time, anywhere. We've had several who served in times that greatness wasn't needed. We've had a few who were tempermentally unsuited for the job, Harding, Carter, Clinton, and Hayes. As for the worst, a President whose administration was disasterous....Carter, Clinton,Andrew Johnson, Hoover and Grant come to mind. Fillmore is largely credited with doing nothing as President, overstated perhaps, but not by much. Polk is accused of stealing land from Mexico by war, and the charge certainly has merit. There were a string of mediocrities prior to the Civil War that are somewhat at fault for it happening, Pierce(pro-slavery Democrat), Buchanan (neutral),Fillmore(see above). The one thing we Americans can feel blessed about is that we have never had a truly evil President. My choice for worst? Carter. Bad economy, bad judgement, Iran hostage crisis, Boycotting the Moscow Olympics, inflation, gas lines, pardoning military deserters, and discussing nuclear policy with his 13 year old daughter. Carter, America's worst President. At least I'm hoping this was a serious question and not another chance for the Liberals to Bush bash.

Whilst I am not American and can only judge from afar my choice would have to be George W Bush by some distance.
If I were American I would be embarrassed and ashamed that he was my elected leader, the man is a dangerous halfwit.
And just in case people reply that he can't be dumb because he studied at Yale, just remember how rich his parents are.
I also think our own Tony Blair would fit into the same template although he can string a few words together without falling on his face.

Former President Clinton should have been dealt with immediately. His choices are the very reason the next to lead our country had his hands full...Bill Clinton's behavior proves he was not tending to the farm per say and we all know what happens when farmer does not tend to his fields.

Saloth Sar "Pol Pot", (If your counting Prime Ministers)
Otherwise Idi Amin (Dada)

Sure there may be some room for improvement. But the worst U.S. one really doesn't rate a mention. Think your self lucky you only have to put up with a bad one for four years. Then all you need to do is vote.

Too difficult to choose. There have been so many bad ones...

If you make the question "Who is the worst president in office today?" It is much easier to answer.
