I dont feel sorry for Saddam, the mass killer. I feel sorry for Saddam, the human being. I am not against death sentence in cases of mass murderers like him, but his trial was a sham, wasn't it?
The basic rule in justice is that the judge and the jury must be impartial, but in Saddam's case, the judge was a relative of someone he had got killed, appointed by the Americans! One may argue that Saddam had got so many people killed that it would have been impossible to find someone wholly impartial.
Then why wasn't his trial under a UN tribunal as in the Yugoslav dictator's case?
The justice he was given was no better than what he gave to his people, so doesn't that make everyone else as guilty as him?
His death sentence has only served the purpose of boosting Bush's hollow ego a bit, and has made him martyr in the eyes of local Sunnis, isn't that unfortunate?

Perhaps if he had been brought to heel earlier on he would'nt
have achieved what he did.Which only goes to prove with the
whittling away of punishment, in today's society these people
and people like them will chance their arm. When they see they
can get away without having any price to pay, that as they say is
the thin end of the wedge. Then they get on to commit worse
crimes.Plus the other side of the coin is blindness, I am sure that
a lot of people in the west knew, that this tyranny was going on
and never raised a finger to stop it. Bring's back memories of
Idi Amin, there was enough warning given about what was
happening in Uganda before any finger's were pointed.Churchill
knew about Hitler's going's on, he could have been stopped in
the early days but NO.Like children give them an inch and they
end up taking a mile

Some people value the human life so much that they think even scum(saddam) shouldnt be punished by death. What they seem to forget is, inprisionment is very costly. From the food, to the housing to the staff. If someone has a life sentence with no possibility of ever getting out he/ she should be exicuted. Not being inhumane, just aproching it logically. After all they are going to die eventually anyway.

Anybody who does feel sorry for a coward who orders the rape and murder of women and children in front of their families because they looked at the ugly bastard the wrong way needs to see a psychiatrist.
This pathetic impotent coward would send his secret police into schools in Iraq each morning and select six children from a class who would then be shot in front of the other children and their bodies left on the floor for their parents to retrieve.
This was done simply to reinforce his campaign of terror. The indescribable torture he imposed on innocent people was the most inhumain immaginable.
He lived a cowards life and he died like a coward a quick painless death.
He should have been tied to the nearest lamp post and tortured mercilessly for as long as it was possible to keep him alive, then his pathetic body should have been ripped apart and sent to whats left of his miserable family just as he did to his victims.

It's not as much feeling sorry for a nasty guy as feeling sickened by the thought of any human being with the same feelings as you suffering. I feel totally shocked by the amount of people wanting to SEE how it happened! There's something weird and sick about it, kinda sadistic...

It's called compassion. Most human beings possess this character trait .. to a certain degree. Saddam did not possess this trait.

Because his trial was unfair, it was obvious what would happen from the start, it was just a circus to give the Americans an excuse to kill him, and say it was legal, That does not say I am for or against, but it was not correct what happened.

A human being should feel sorrow at someone's death. And also for the fact that he somehow became the monster that he was. It's a sad state of affairs.
