Some of the high end motherboards (expensive ASUS) use gold in some of the circuits on it because large amounts of data (or electricity) can travel through gold better than most of the other metals that they use

Do you mean using gold in making mother boards?

Any copper linking circuits between chips, or even older transisors or valves, are better for being gold plated to prevent corrosion. Of course most makers these days want things to corrode so you have to replace them!
