I try to add new hardware, and then I get to the point I have to have the disk for the modem, (which I don't have) then there is no list of manufacterers for the modems. I have windows xp home ed. Modem is a compaq, ptel v.90 somethin or rather. I have tried all the suggestions from the help menu. Any suggestions would be appreciated

I have tried everthing 2 or threee times already. It is not something simple, cause I hooked up my old computer, and well here I am on the internet

Unless you give model number details and proper mfg name, you aint gonna get help! You need a driver and "or somthin or rather" aint gonna get it!

just go to compaq site and download every modem there with v 90 in it.. im talking about the drivers.. then put them on your desktop and when you get to where its looking for the modem try each one till it works.. it wont take a driver for the wrong modem so what have you got to lose

Make shure that all of the phones are on the hook and that the phone line is properly plugged into the modem and the wall

the modem has two jacks, one is for the line from the wall and another jack for the modem to a phone. make sure you have the line from the wall outlet connected to the jack that says "line" and not "phone"

try to go to the Compaq website and download the modem recognition from there because I had a similar problem with my dell and their technician told me to go to their website and download the modem when you don't have the CD for it

i had the same problem with my modem.the solution is. go to control panel, system, hardware , device manager. in the list find network adapters which should have your modem.right click your modem and click enable.it should now work.

Make sure the phone line isn't off the hook somewhere.
