'A wish your heart makes', then what is a nightmare? And no 'too much spicy food before sleeping' answers! I'm ahead of you on that one.

If a dream is a wish then maybe the nightmare would be the truth. Maybe that is why the say to keep on dreaming!

When they say a dream is a wish your heart makes, they don't mean a literal dream you have at night. They mean "dream" as in a wishful goal...something you dream about having or doing. For example, my daughter dreams of being a great ballerina when she grows up.
As for literal nightmares, I think it is a way for your heart to let you know there is something wrong. Nightmares are often symbolic of problems or stress in everyday life that your mind has to try to work through. It is a way for your brain to purge the awful things in your life to make way for the wonderful things later.

nightmare is the fear within your heart
whenever you are afraid of something-
you don't want to think of that.
but the thing you try to ignore-
always comes into your mind
and while sleeping when that comes into mind,
]iots just considered as nightmare.

I'll tell you what a nightmare is: I dreamt that I went to England to meet Ichi and all I found was some computer nerd stuck in a cubicle.
