The most beautiful time to visit Sweden would be from late May to the end of June, in my opinion. Midsummer (around 24th of June) is one of the most celebrated Swedish holidays, so that could be fun to participate in. But much depends on the weather. If you are unlucky, it will be cold and rainy. Mid-July to Mid-August is safer (but alas, not safe...) for sun and warmth, and very nice too, but maybe not quite as beautiful as late spring/early summer. If you are going to the far north, August would be safer (and less mosquitos, which can be a real pain in the North). I actually don't think that there are any real off-peak periods cost-wise, except for Gotland (a wonderful, very special Island) where you should avoid July. But most people take their vacation in July, so you would find it easier - and sometimes cheaper - to find hotel rooms in June or August. - Hotels will be the most expensive cost for you. Hostels ("vandrarhem") are a very good alternative, if you want to live real cheap. They are not at all for youths only - no age limits, lots of families and adults staying there, almost always clean and nice, often beautifully situated, very cheap, in no way luxurious, of course, but reasonably comfortable, and you can find them in cities as well as in the countryside. Sometimes you have to bring your own breakfast, though, and lunch or dinner is never served.

The best time? Do you like short short days in the winter or long long ones in the summer?
There isnt really any high season, not enough tourists. And its always expensive so if you want to save money. Dont go to bars, restaraunts you can drink eat outside legally in most countries You should avoid Christmas, even though its beatifull.
For traveling late spring early summer is best but midsummer is the most fun for camping and outdoor activies. This is a fun time to go to Finland or the islands between Sweden/ Finland. Bornholm is also nice. Camping is also a good way to save money in the coutryside.
If you go in the mid summer many locals will be away on holiday- it seems. So in the cities it can actually be an off season if your trying to book a hotel and save.
The weather however is always unpredictable, a sunny day in Stockholm or Copenhagen can easily turn rainy and dark.
Another idea, book with icelandair. They usually have the cheapest cross atlantic flights or specials and you can book a free stopover in Iceland, whcih is hard ot get to otherwise.

I don't know much about when it's the best season to visit the other scandinavian cpuntries, bu tI do know, that my favorite time of the year here in denmark is late summer (july) because the sky is so beautifully dark blue, the weather is best in july, and the danish people are just more fun around late summer (I think). Of course, the weather is still a bit unpredictable, but mostly, it's about 20 degrees celsius.
But as a quick conclusion, I think that Denmark is most representable during late summer.
Bt that might just be me. ;)
Hope you enjoy scandinavia ;)

I think you should go there during end of spring. Snow on the mountain is not well melted yet, very beautiful and not too cold. Beyond that, there are not many tourist like in mid-summer.
About accomendation, Hostel is quite a nice choice. There is also a room for 2 or 3people, even for family room.
The low-cost airline is a good choice for transportation. (Cheaper than train or ship) Try this
www.sterling.dk
www.norwagian.no
www.sas.no
www.ryanair.com
Enyjoy your Trip!! Have FUN!!

The cheapest airlines are www.sas.no, www.norwegian.no.
The hotels in Finland for instance are EUR120-180/night. There is no seasonability. In the Christmas you have to book it before.
You can take a boat (www.silja.fi, www.wikingline.com), but it is EUR150/person. There is no seasonability.
There is not big difference in prices depending on the seasonability.
