My first Stephen King book was 'The Stand'. After reading many more of his, and I am a total King fan, I still think The Stand was/is his best. But then I think I love everything of his that I have read so far. The Stand, The Shining, The Dead Zone, Green Mile, Bag of Bones, Salem's Lot, Misery, Insomnia, Hearts in Atlantis, Needful Things, Rose Madder, Dark Tower series, Skeleton Crew and the list goes on and on...
The Stand.

In my opinion, Hearts in Atlantis is Stephen King’s best novel.
Next I believe Bag of Bones.
I believe these two because Stephen King has incorporated his unparalleled ability to scare the hell out of you and give you the most vivid pictures in your mind... But he does it with more passion than any other books I have read.
Hearts in Atlantis also has a very good movie that goes along with it.
It has also been the only book by Stephen King to actually spin and confuse and delight all of my senses at the same time.
Then Bag of Bones was a love story, which makes it desirable for people like me that always like a good love story... But it's also got the words and imagination to make you be chilled right to the bone and leave you reading faster and faster just to see what happens next.

I asked my dad the same question and he told me that The Stand is, but I haven't read it yet. My favorite one that I have read is probably Desperation. I also really liked The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon.
