I am an accounting student. I won't have much time for gaming, but I will use it for photo editing and watching dvd as well.

It would depend completely on what you are hoping to use it for... Gameing requires a different system then a graphic artist. So depends on what you plan to do with it. I'd call dell and talk to someone who specializes in making a computer then shop around when you know the spicifics of what you want out of it.

I know you dont want to hear this, but have you considered the new macbook with the dual core pentium chip? Not only are they in the 1000-1500 range but one of the many things it can do is boot up in windows XP and it is also Vista compatible.

For ease of use, stability and flexibility, theres nothing better. No known viruses, spyware or trojan horses, native support for all periphals....

I would get an Acer Aspire 5601 AWLMI. It has a duel core 1.6ghz processor, 120gb hard drive, 1gb ram, duel layer dvd burner and a great LCD pannel. I have one and love it. It was about $1500 australian so it should be in your price range once the price is in US dollars
