Sometimes we do, if we keep an open mind and keep learning. Sometimes we don't get wiser, though, because we already think we know it all.
I have learned a huge amount from my kids-- I find that when I respect them and their opinions, they are much more willing to return the courtesy. And the truth is, there are some areas where they ARE more knowledgeable. The world is always changing--many of their experiences will be different from yours.
I always felt it was much more productive to teach my kids how to think and make good decisions for themselves than it was to lay down rules of what they could or could not do. After all, the time will come (and we never know when!) that we will not be here to tell them things anymore... so better they have confidence that they have the tools to make good choices.

It is not simply, the older you get the wiser you become. You have to do some learning too. There are lots of dumb older people around who are quite childish! Age alone does not naturally endow you with wisdom. Experience teaches but one must be ready to be taught by experience. Age comes in because, the assumption is that you have gained more experience over the years that your kids. But they also say that experience teaches fools. We are expected to life's ups and downs. But there are many who remain foolish no matter the bitter experiences.
On the other hand, young people are much sharper when it comes to modern technologies. They may be tender in terms of age much much sharper in certain things. Your kids may know more. But what is it? Its possible they know more about certain new recent fashions and you appear old-fashioned but only "appear" so because they never saw the sun before you as it is said.
We have a lot of catching up to do or else we might appear so dumb and damned before our kids' very eyes. Keep up with learning and dont challenge them if you dont know. Consult them and admit you dont know it but are learning since it is a new concept that was not there when you grew up.
Good luck.

Most kids think that and they fail to realize that as the older one, you are more wiser than to believe what they think.

I was one of those kids. Maybe this will comfort you: When I was 25, I called my Mom and said, "You were right." She said, "About what?" I said, "Everything. I'm sorry I ever gave you a hard time." It made her happy to hear it. That might happen someday to you.
Mark Twain had a line about this, something like, "My father was an idiot when I was 14, but by 21 I was surprised by how much he had learned."
Good luck!

That's the way kids are. They don't have experience yet and therefore they are not wise. Experience is the key to wisdom and you only get more experience as you get older.

Probably because you know more. You've lived longer. They certainly don't know more than you.
