Our computer is nearly one year old and has produced blue screens (Bug-Code-Usb 0x00000FE) errors since we bought it. It has been back to OEM local shop four times. We are advised it must be some hardware we are using and he cannot find anything wrong with the computer (Asus XP Pro).
We only have the printer and Speedtouch modem attached and have updated everything we can.
It is now reaching its warranty date.
What would experienced computer owners do in this situation - these very silver surfers would be so grateful for advice.

Think of Windows as a baby. It can only communicate in cryptic cries and you have to figure out what is happening, even if an incorrect cry is given. Your PC is saying there is a problem occurring with a device or driver that is associated with the USB. If you start up the PC without the printer or modem attached, and then run it for a while, does it blue screen? If so, then figure out which one is associated with the problem, remove the driver, and install the latest one. If you're still blue screening, then it could be a poorly compatible driver, wrong driver, bad implementation of USB by Asus (not so likely), incorrect wiring of off-motherboard USB sockets (easy to get wrong with Asus). You can try using a different printer or modem, too.

Also take a look at this thread for a similar solution:

In that specific case, it turned out to be his network drivers.

Good luck. Figuring out BSODs can be a PITA.

Sounds like the operating system your using is corrupted. Or is missing important pieces. Bugs sometimes will do this. Ask your geek about dumping windows and reloading. Do Not try this at home... Its alot more complicated than what you would think. Hopefully you don't have a bunch of pictures that are irreplaceable. If you do and it'll let you in. BACK THEM UP. Copy them onto a CD ASAP. Sounds like your system is on it way out and once they are gone they are GONE. Good luck...

There is probably nothing wrong with your computer and attached hardware.
It's a software problem.
AVG free anti-virus and Ad-Aware free. After installing both, do a full system scan with Ad-Aware and then AVG anti-virus. Should do the trick.
If you are running Windows XP install all the latest updates (go to Windows Update) to make sure you are up to date.
Make sure you have at least Windows Firewall turned on to block bad inbound and outbound traffic.

take everything off of it that you want ..take it to the shop and have them format and reload it..If this doesnt fix it ..tell them to give you another .by the way advise them to fdisk it and write the harddrive back to 0's that will take care of any partitions hiding a problem.. and put things back to where they should be.I had a computer that would not load xp.I have been a computer tech for the most part of my life and worked for a major mfg.. my boss tried even to load xp everything we could think of..We spent 56 hours total trying to load it and doing everything possible except one thing.. didnt try swapping video cards..My video card had a spur on it.. it worked but the connection wasnt perfect..I changed it out with another exactly like it .and it loaded and then put mine back in..My boss never gives up on anything and he did i was the one that figured it out. xp is nice but its really weird

i would take it back before the warranty ends because if you are already having problems there are man more to come, but if you really don't want to you can try a unhooking your printer(see if that changes anything) might not be compatible, or it might just be your modem is not compatible with that computer. well good luck and i hope i helped :)
