I believe that Jake Peavy is the best pitcher 25 and under in MLB and a top 10 pitcher no matter what age

Justin Verlander has the highest level of potential of all under 25.
He won 17 games as a rookie. He turns 24 in February.

17-9 3.63 124 60 1.33 (WHIP)

Here are Jake Peavy's stats from last year:
11-14 4.09 215 62 1.23 (WHIP)

Peavy also turns 26 in May so he might not relly qualify under your question. The norm for age questions is the age as of 30 June (the mid point of the season).

Giants MAtt Cain, he's simply brilliant. Also look out for Seattle's Felix Hernandez. Both players are showing big signs of glort. Jake Peavy is undoubtedly a baseball stud under 25. It will be great seeing those three pitch against each other.

I gotta agree with your second answerer. Fransisco Liriano is the best pitcher 25 and under in the MLB. First of all, he fits your profile because he is 23 years old. He has a huge killer fastball and changeup, just like the second guy said. (I've went to one of his games.) I don't know if he is as good as Santana, since Santana is the best in the MLB, but I do agree that Liriano would've won the Rookie of the Year award, if he wasn't injured. But maybe not the Cy Young, Johan Santana deserved that award.

Carlos Zambrano, but I don't know if that counts because he's 25 already. Felix Hernandez of Seattle would be my choice then. And that's for starting pitchers. The best reliever under 25 is K-Rod. 106 saves, a 2.28 ERA, and has led the AL in saves, over Mariano Rivera, for the past two seasons.

Scott Kazmir is in the top 3 for sure. Liriano and Verlander are both studs. Matt Cain I think is a notch below, but he could be unhittable at times, if he stays healthy. Peavy is overrated, come on, he's good but not that good. How old is Bonderman? He's also very good. Watch out for Philip Hughes coming soon to a penant race near you...

I have a battle between Liriano, Verlander, and Willis.

These three are the best (in my mind) young pitchers in the league right now.

Liriano (If healthy) would have probably won Rookie/OY

Verlander IS R/OY

And D. Willis is just awsome.

I say:

1. Liriano
2. Verlander

Matt Cain has been making a lot of people turn their heads, but you can't be a great pitcher if you are not consistent. He definately has great stuff and tons of potential and I can see him being in the top three in this category next year.

Despite his lackluster 2006 year, I think the under 25 pitcher with the nastiest stuff is Felix Hernandez (aka King Felix). Perhaps he's a better answer to who is the best young pitcher (21 and under).

Top 3
Atl-Chuck James-went 9-3 I think from right around all-star break and has impressive changeup; he's even been compared to Glavine who is 10 wins away from 300
Det-Justin Verlander- one of the hardest throwers in MLB
TB-Scott Kazmir- great slider and good ERA in AL East
Liariano would be included but I don't know how he will be able to come back from injury

Liriano before he got hurt.

Healthy I have to go with Scot Kazmir (22) of the Devil Rays. Lefty with a great slider.Has an era under 3.50 pitching in the AL East. Not many can say that.
