I am currently 29 weeks pregnant and for the past 3+ days I have barely been able to eat anything - nauseous, vomiting if I do attempt to eat. Which was onset by some stress, and I'm trying to take it easy, but it isn't the type of stress that can be ignored or goes away quickly. I had Hyperemesis Gravidarum (severe nausea and vomiting in pregnancy to the point of hospitalization) in the beginning of my pregnancy, but haven't had any of it's symptoms since I hit my 5 month mark. I'm mainly concerned because I know just my prenatal vitamins alone aren't enough to suffice for the nutrients that I and the baby need. I have only gained about 8 pounds so far in my pregnancy, and the doctor wasn't so concerned with the numbers factor since everything with the baby is checking out fine. The reason I am posting here and not at my doctor's already is that I am out of state for the holidays and won't return to my home for almost another week. Has this happened to anyone else and what did you do?

If you are diagnosed with HG, you will most likely be hospitalized immediately to restore fluids and replace electrolytes intravenously. You may also receive vitamin supplements, especially vitamins B6, C, and thiamine. You should not consume food orally until the vomiting stops and dehydration has been corrected; if vomiting persists, you may be given antiemetic (anti-nausea and vomiting) drug therapy.

Studies performed to determine the cause of HG have been inconclusive. It is thought that estrogen, progesterone, adrenal, and pituitary hormones all play a part. Psychological and social factors also seem to have a connection. For example, women who are having an unwanted pregnancy; or young, unwed mothers who feel harassed by their parents for their "mistake" seem to have a higher incidence of HG. The disease is also more common among women with a higher body weight, no previous completed pregnancies, those who are carrying twins, first-time pregnancies, and those with a history of HG in previous pregnancies. It is becoming clear that HG is a complex physiological disease probably caused by multiple factors.

Acupressure and hypnosis has been shown to help some women suffering from HG. The pressure point to reduce nausea is located at the middle of the inner wrist and applying pressure to this point may help some HG sufferers. Seabands that use this pressure point can be purchased at many drug stores.

The HER Foundation, or Hyperemesis Education & Research Foundation, provides education and support for mothers suffering from HG and those who care for them. You can contact them on the Web at www.helpher.org

I would start out by every couple of minutes take a tablespoon of water or pedialight. so you will stay hydrated.

OK I WOULD GO TO THE ER NO MATTER WHERE I AM AT. YOU MAY NEED SOME IV TO GET HYDRATED AND TO MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS OK. ALWAYS SAFE THEN SORRY. YAHOO SEARCH HAS A LOT OF THINGS OVER IT. I COPY AND PASTE SOME OVER IT. BUT FROM WHAT I HAVE READ DONT EAT TILL YOU CAN HOLD LIQUIDS DOWN FOR 24/48 HOURS THEN ONLY EAT LIGHT THINGS.

JELLO THINGS LIKE THAT AT FIRST.

You can always call your OB and ask if an ER visit is needed. Try small amounts of food. I mean really small take one bite then walk away. Take your liquids and solids separately as the sloshing can cause problems. You could also try what marathoners do to refuel during a race without upsetting their stomachs. Go to a sporting goods store and tell them you need gels. I like Clifshots (don't get the ones with caffeine) The lemon lime tastes like key lime pie and the strawberry banana is good too. The vanilla is OK, just don't look at it. Good luck and happy delivery!

If you are dehydrated then you need an intravenous fluid.Get hospitalized and may be they will give you an anti-emetic medicine thru IVF to think that you can't able to take oral medicine because of severe vomiting. And may I advised you nothing to eat for 4hrs then take a small but fraquent feeding.Goodluck and take a regular pre-natal check up.

You should really call your OB even though you won't be home for another week. He may want you to go to a doctor as soon as you can, and not wait.

Have you tried any anti-nausea drugs (prescribed of course) like promethegan suppositories?
