i was trying to develope a small smtp/ftp/http application and i never thought that i had to deal with proxy servers while connecting
to the servers. I am able to connect and send e-mail directry. I hope I can do the FTP thing directly too. But I don't know how to connect the SMTP and FTP server though proxy server. Any Idea??

You must connect to an FTP server in passive mode when using a proxy gateway. Use your browser for FTP access through a proxy, it is easier. Download is easy, but to push files, you need SSL support. For SMTP , port re-direction and POP3 offer alternatives.
