it's not monkeys it's apes...and apes and humans have a common ancestor...we didn't evolve from apes...back in the "olden" days...there were different kinds of apelike animals and we just happened to evolve better than the other ones...they evolved for life in trees and we evolved for life on the ground...we learned to carry things in our hands and that it's easier to walk on two legs...once we started walking upright we started to figure out uses for our hands...that's where tools came from...the rest is "history"

Another senseless question from the creationists' playbook, wrong in so many ways. Even if we did evolve from monkeys (which we didn't, they just tell you that to make you feel embarrassed), why would that demand that monkeys couldn't still be with us??
Monkeys, apes and humans all evolved from a common ancestor that was none of those. If you ignoramuses would read a science book you'd at least have a better idea of what you're supposed to be against, but you insist on trumpeting your lack of understanding all over the Internet in your feeble-minded attempts to discredit science - and using computers to do it!

1) Humans and monkeys have a common ancestor. Neither evolved from the other.
2) Humans have the same number of hairs that other apes do, the hair on humans tends to be thinner and less noticable.
Please start with the FAQ at www.talkorigins.org and study up on evolution. It will answer a lot of your questions.

If this theory were true it would be because there are very many species in animals, such as there are over a 1000 different types Of dogs. Why some are more intelligent than others, is any ones guess. It is the same way with humans.

Im gonna agree with Riley smurf on this one. It's pretty well explained by Darwin's Finches on the Galapagos Islands. Over many many years, the species that fit different niches adapt to survive in their surroundings. Cro Magnon man and Neanderthals coexisted on Earth at one point.
To answer your question though, monkeys are around because we have zoos for them to live in.

The fact that this myth persists indicates that we aren't educating people very well. We did not evolve from monkeys, they are related to us through a common ancestor, but that ancestor existed millions of years ago.

why so many different kinds of monkeys still around you mean? good question! there are dozens after all! gorillas, chimpanzees, baboons, humans, orang-utans, capuchins, the list goes on and on! and one could equally well ask why so many different kinds of human too? black ones, brown ones, white ones, red ones, yellow ones, pygmy ones, red-haired ones, blonde-haired ones, blue-eyes, green-eyes, clever ones, not so clever ones, the list goes on and on as well! but why all this variation? tricky. nature likes to try out different things now and then just to see what happens? if nothing really bad turns up they survive, if not, they dont. where are all the green skinned humans for example? guess that particular variation didnt work out too good! or maybe it hasnt been tried yet?
