As everyone has said it is bad for your hair, not to mention your skin.
Chlorine dries your hair and skin by stripping all the natural oils. You can buy a shampoo and conditioner pacifically designed for hair exposed to chlorine. And use a good gentle moisturising body cleanser for the skin

Malibu 2000

I am sure there is plenty more, than the few I have mentioned.
I used to be a swimming instructor, and my hair was so dry it would go frizzy. So I would apply a liberal dose of a conditioner before entering the pool, especially to the ends.
Once a term I would have conditioning treatment at the hair dressers, once a week I would apply a deep conditioner to my hair, wrap my hair in cling wrap and then a towel and leave for 30 minutes, before rinsing my hair, and let it dry naturally.
Enjoy your swimming

Chlorine is horrible for your hair. Chlorine is a powerful oxidant. Basically it is meant for killing bacteria, so when it comes in contact with your hair or skin it can sometimes irritate it, or cause your hair to dry out.
If your going to be in a lot of Chlorine for a long time make sure you shower when you get out and use conditioner, not just shampoo. If your hair still feels dry try putting some avocado in it and leave it in for about 10-15 minutes it will make it very smooth!
Good luck.

If you want a cheaper alternative to green hair dye... Then sure. Otherwise, chlorine is a toxic chemical. While there isn't enough in pool water to do much to someone, it will ruin your hair. Always shampoo and clean your hair after swimming. And where do you live that it is summer... it's freezing up here in the good ol' USA! You must be Australian or something.

Chlorine is not good for your hair, your skin, your eyes, your anything. Chlorine is a poison. It is put in the water because the things that would be living in the water in its absence would be much worse for you. Enjoy your summer. We just got burried in 3 feet of snow here in Denver, Colorado, USA, so swim a lap for me!

No. It isn't. Wearing a normal swim cap won't help you much, your hair doesn't get any less wet w/ one on. Just take a shower afterward. Also, I've heard that if you get your hair wet w/ non-chlorinated water beforehand too, your hair will be less damaged.

Chlorine, or for that matter any chemical, is no good for your hair. To keep you hair healthy, you will need to shampoo your hair after a swim to keep it healthy.

No it's not, get your hair wet in the shower right before you get in the pool so your hair doesn't soak up all the chlorine.
