Becuase the Giants and the Chiefs hold the tiebreakers in their respective conferences by beating the other teams eligible for the playoffs with the same records.

giants won because they tied with carolina and the rams but had a better conference record. (giants-- 7-5, rams , carolina, 6-6). KC got in because they tied with denver , who lost, and kc had a better head to head record.
