So itunes is somewhat lacking in what you can download as far as movies/ videos, so i was wondering are there any other alternatives? Also, if I already have a DVD, can I upload its contents to the computer and then onto my ipod? Or is that not possible/ illegal? If not, are there any programs/ websites where I can get them off of? My problem is that I'm not at home often, but I'd still like to watch some movies, so basically the only way for me to see them are in the movies or on my ipod =(

I have and application called Videora iPod Converter that will convert non iPod videos to iPod compatible. From there, I can load the converted video into iTunes and have that upload into my iPod. I also have Adobe Premier Elements which can convert video projects I'm working on directly to iPod format. In order to rip a DVD, you'll need an application to bypass the encryption on the disk (this would be illegal). If the DVD is unprotected (unlikely) you should be able to convert straight from the VOB format to an iPod format. Not to say it can't be done if the disk is protected, it's actually quite trivial, but I'd like to keep this post legal. Google has excellent advise for ripping from VOB to MPEG2.

Typical iPod format that works well is "Mpeg-4/320x240/768kbps stereo/128kbps".

Hope that helps.

If you convert to iPod as described in here, you'll find your videos on your iPod under "movies".

Also, in iTunes, once your iPod is connected you can choose which types of media are transferred automatically. By default, movies are disabled. Make sure you enable the transfer of movies, then resync the iPod and your videos will copy over.

Hope this helps.
