Let's say I go to college in Minnesota or Illinois (I live in NJ) and come back to the east to get a job in NYC. Will I have less of chance of getting a good job because I went to school somewhere else? What if these universities are in the top 20 as dictated by the US News and World Report rankings? What if it is a small college in the top 30 of all liberal arts colleges? Any advice? Real-life input? Thanks!

as long as the college you go to is accredited, you will not have any problems at all. the most important aspect is your grades. if you graduate in the deans list and accademically very good, that is what matters. like the fellow before me said, all prospective employers see what you have accomplished while in school. not just because you go to the top colleges means you are assured of a job. examples are my two sons. they went to the university of new orleans. they did not go the LSU or tulane university as we had limited income. they have GREAT jobs. one is a geologist in a big oil company and the other one is a project engineer also in a prominent company. they both graduated with outstanding grades and had no problem with getting jobs. remember, it is what you accomplish in college and not the college itself that matters. put your hopes within yourself and your achievements and you will go far. good luck!

This will not matter, especially if the college is in the top 30 of all liberal arts colleges. Usually these schools are known by the employer, and if it isn't you should make a note of it to put that on your resume before getting the job. It is always good to impress upon degree, and from where you got the degree. You have a good chance of getting a job anywhere if you have a degree, and especially in the top 30. Hope I was able to help.

see you later because it really is a superb college it really is going to be ok. regardless of the indisputable fact that i'd propose hostile to residing interior the south for a lengthy time period. individuals up north have a tendency to seem down on southerner's and when you've linked your self with the south its complicated to get the scent off to manage to talk. I actually have coworkers who want to bypass decrease back domicile to Jersey yet they have been interior the south too lengthy.
