the most important piece is the piece that your opponent, or yourself, uses the best.
for myself, it's the knights, because you can attack often from positions where it's hard to BE attacked. of course, you need to set yourself up
for many people it's the queen, because it can do any other pieces attack pattern except for the knight, making it very useful

In general, the Queen is the most valuable piece because it can move in all directions and has a long range. A rule of thumb says that the Queen is worth 9 pawns, a Rook 5 pawns, and the Bishop and Knight each 3 pawns.
Said that it always depends on the position you are in. Sometimes it may be necessary to sacrifice your Queen to be able to checkmate the enemy King with a "lesser" piece.

The Knight is the best piece. The Knight can move quickly across the board and can move over other pieces. The Knight can also be used to protect and/or threaten multiple pieces at a time and when a Knight puts the King into check the King either has to move or have another piece take the Knight because of the Knight's ability to move through other pieces.

The queen since she's the only piece that can move in any direction any number of spaces, making her the most versatile piece. That's why when a pawn gets promoted, it's usually to a queen.

the queen is highest in points. The most important piece is whichever one give checkmate to the other King or saves your king from that fate. Knights are generaly under rated, but they can attack over other men and have an interesting attack pattern. Just something to keep in mind.

The queen.
Other than the queen, it's the knights, especially if you know how to use them to their full potential.
A bishop might be more useful early in the game, but having your knights later on is to your advantage.
