Is synthetic oil really better than conventionail oil?

Yes, a synthetic oil is formulated to with stand the heat for longer periods over conventional oils.... they also help to clean and protect the engine with their built in detergents. Synthetic oil gets its best use in performance engines though any engine can benifit from the use of synthetic... One thing to be careful of, is if your vehicle has high miles, or has had poor mantainence, it will clean the sludge up quickly and you may find some leaks from where it was covered in sludge... if this is the case, plan on another oil change sooner rather than later, whereas the oil is severly contaminated at this point!

You can get just as many miles froma vehicle if you use regular oil versus synthetic oil. My dad just hit 300K on his dodge intrepid and he has been using regular oill the whole time, his car dosent leak or burn 1 drop of oil, and he has never had any maintenance issues. IMO synthetic oil is just hype and overpriced. Your going to change it every 3000 miles so why spend twice as much????

You already know the answers..stated in your question..It doesn't break down as quick, recommendation between changes is 7500 miles on syn, but the cost is higher..but once you go to synthetic, you shouldn't change back to regular oil,

i prefer lubricating gel. I get better mileage. Use K-Y or Wet.
