Coming to your question Indian Defence (Army / Navy and AF) has two categoreis one is permanent service other is short service. Permanent position are based on your age and short service commision is 14yr tenure from your commissioning. If you are over taken by your juniors as a special case you may be allowed to take voluntary retirement otherwise you must serve the full tenure. For flying and non flying officers the age of retirement depends on their rank in permanent service but min it is 18 Yrs service from the day of commissioning
