In my opinion you should download it directly from microsoft, but after you download it then don't use it. Why? The reason you are updating to IE7 is because it is at least more secure than IE6 and will help protect your computer a little more than IE6.
Here is what the United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team says about IE:
"There are a number of significant vulnerabilities in technologies related to the IE domain/zone security model,...ActiveX (etc)...It is possible to reduce exposure to these vulnerabilities by using a different web browser"
http://www.kb.cert.org/vuls/id/713878
Here is what Microsoft says about its own ActiveX feature:
"An ActiveX control can be an extremely insecure way to provide a feature...From the moment a user downloads an ActiveX control, the control may be vulnerable to attack.."
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/workshop/components/activex/security.asp
Use Firefox, its based on different technologies

Yea, it is free from viruses and spyware, but the fact is that just too many people are facing weird problems after getting it. So better stay away from it. I will recommend using Firefox, which is much better.
Happy New Year!!
Tip: Always keep IE as your default browser.

IE 7 is a new product, it has some bugs. you should use a more secure browser to protect your PC from virus.
i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can block any any popup and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE browser. as you know, most of virus spread throught internet and webpage.
besides, firefox is much smaller than IE, so it run faster than IE.
download firefox for free, Just have a try:

It will not have any viruses. But when you browse with that software and visit many vulnerable sites you are likely to get infected. You insatll a standard antivirus soft ware such as Norton, AVG , Avast ( free antivirus software and Ad-aware, Ewido ( free spyware removers). You can download free softwares at
http://fixit.in/antivirus.html and http://fixit.in/spywareremover.html

I'm not saying that yahoo is giving adwares or spywares. But i think if you go to microsoft.com you can download it without any doubt about viruses. But you need to have a genuine copy of windows. If you don't know whether your copy of windows is genuine or not, it doesen't matter. simply go to microsoft.com and click to download the internet explorer. Then they will tell whether your copy of windows is genuine or not.
