Smurf is sort of right, you need to choose a resolution that is realistic. I made a resolution and I was determined to keep it. Ask your self these questions:
1) Do I really want this or I'm just saying it because it is New Year's
2) Are you being specific or generalizing? I'm going to quit smoking! (how do you plan to do this?), I'm going to lose weight! (how much?, by when?)
3) Is your resolution realistic?
Start with small goals and work up to the big resolution. I will spend only $25 on myself per week, candy bar - soda - new sunglasses - a new cd. I will put $100 a month in the bank without fail.
A resolution doesn't need to be a sacrifice, it could be a reward. I will buy a new car by October.
Good luck ---- and by the way --- my resolution was to quit drinking!! Today makes five years sober. This year, haven't decided yet.

Writing them down and posting them somewhere where i can always see them (such as a refrigerator or mirror) has always helped me because its a constant reminder of what i promised myself. Another way is to find what you will gain out of fufilling your resolution and keep that as a constant motivator in your mind. Motivation is the key to everything, and as sad as it is, people are most commonly motivated by what they will gain!Hope this helps :) Good luck!

Are your resolutions within reason? Most people make resolutions they really don't have to power to keep on their own, such as losing weight, quitting smoking, quitting drinking etc. You need to start by making resolutions that are within your means to keep.

Pick the one resolution that will do the most positive thing in your life and stick to that one. If you make too many it gets too frustrating to keep them all.

Trying writing them in a dairy or journal, something that you would see every day. So that may remind you what you need to do to keep your resolutions/

Make them attainable, nothing too daunting, else you will just drop them, keep the list short - no more than two and the best of luck

post it where you can see it everyday ( to remind yourself everyday)
Set your goals realistically
plan how you will accomplish it and work toward it
Reward yourself for each level you pass
