most virus are spread through IE. IE is not a safe browser. you should use a more secure browser to protect your PC from virus.
i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can block any any popup and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE browser. as you know, most of virus spread throught internet and webpage.
besides, firefox is much smaller than IE, so it run faster than IE.

It could have gone on strike for better working conditions.
Its contract period could be expired and stopped working because you didn't renew it.
It could be a malware infection on your computer preventing it from working.
I notice you have an sbcglobal.net email. Are you using the Online protection provided by AT&T Yahoo? If not, you should be. You are paying for it in your DSL service.
If it is the AT&T (SBC) Yahoo online protection Anti-Virus program that is not working, call 1-877-722-3755.

You probably have Norton or McAfee and they do expire.

Because the virus must have found a way to infest and disable your secrurity systems. Many viruses nowadays are getting more and more intelegent. Get a new virus protection like:
AdAware
Spybot
SpySweeper...etc...etc
You can google those terms :)

Do you need to update it/is it expired? Did you install another anti virus, or have another one installed on the computer before you installed that one? Sometimes they will counteract each other and cause problems.

Well, you need to mention what kind of antivirus that you are using on. There are several reason for this matter. Maybe, you antivirus has been 'disable' either by yourself accidentally or by it own vendor for unknown reason(s). One of the possible reason is because of invalid cd keys and expired subcription. There are other reasons too.
