It's kind of hard to evaluate a question like this without more information. What version of Windows XP are you running and do you have all the latest patches, including SP2 and IE7?

What hardware are you using. What's the speed of the CPU, the size of the RAM, the size of the hard drive and amount of free space. Most important how many USB-1 and USB-2 ports do you have?

If you didn't buy the PC in the last few years my first guess would be that you're trying to run a USB-2 device on a USB-1 Port and that doesn't work. If you do have an older machine, you can buy an internal card with USB-2 ports. I understand this ad on works fine as long as the PC is close to 1.5 GHz.

Good Luck and Happy New Year!

Don't fully understand your problem, but I do know we have to first install the driver, then insert the USB device. At this time the PC will tell you that new hardware was detected. It will search for the driver and soon, hopefully, you will be good to go.

Then, just to satisfy yourself, go to:
Start, Settings, Control Panel, System, Device Manager.
right-cl on the USB item and select Properties.
You will be told if it is working properly.

even though you've run the install disk, the pc might not make the connection that that software goes to that hardware........ let the pc run it's hardware installation if the disk doens't work.

also, if you have an older pc, you may only have a1.0 usb slot... most newer hardware needs at least a 2.0 slot.

good luck, hope that helps!!!!

sometimes my front USB use to not recognize what ever it was I would plug in and then sometimes it did, SD card reader, keyboard, mouse, mp3's, etc. I took the cover off to diagnose a different prob and low and be hold, the USB plug to the MOBO was halfway disconnected, try making sure it's connected to the motherboard all the way!
