You're hanging out with the wrong group of people baby girl! Black people are a proud people. Never ever be ashamed of who you are! I am African American, but I would love to have a parent or cousin or friend who is actually from the motherland! The information and stories you must be able to hear! I am JEALOUS!
Please try to change your way of thinking about your roots. You are a truly blessed person. When you get an ignorant question, give them the right answer and just smile knowing that you know and they didn't. Be proud and know that you are of kings and queens!

Black Americans have been conditioned to be ashamed of Africa. It is hard thing to over come. In my opinion a black person can not be intellectually free until they know about the motherland. White Americans know europe (hell they even learn to speak french in school) They all dream of going there. But black have no such connection with the mother continent. Hundreds of years of conditioning can do that to a people.
BTW. Did you know when the first free slaves left America to go to Liberia they sent letters back home about how beautiful it was, how food grew there year around, and how rich the land was, and that white people deliberately surpressed those correspondences.

No Diva, I've found that it is a certain section of the European Americans who try very hard to force the African Americans to remember and accept their African roots !
It will take at least another thousand Abraham Lincolns, to rid these folk of their Klu Klux Clan instincts.

blacks are from Africa, whites are from European countries and Asians are from Asia. ain't no such thing as blacks from any where else on earth. those slave ships wrecked and or stopped on those Caribbean islands and that is why they are there as well as Venezuela, and south America, Cuba and Puerto Rico. they were from Africa and that is that. anyone who says they are not of African decent because they are from a certain place are in denial. any one who has any sort of interest in geography and history would know this without even asking. people just want to deny their African roots because it is obviously a problem being black and that is why they say I am from Haiti, no, the ship dropped a few blacks off in the 1800's and it was settled by french, English, Spanish countries and that is the truth of it.

This question is quite open-ended...it can be answered in so many ways. For one, you stated African American, which is a true identification of our racial ethnicity, but in that same sense, someone answered being "Black and Proud;" therefore, it's how we identify with our ethnic roots individually. It's extremely hard to know your racial background if one doesn't accept or know who they are, where they come from, and why? In addition to that thought, we would have to individually trace our ancestry to see what tribe, or sector of Africa our people come from, and the genealogy from that point would state who is more centered in our traditional ancestral belief compared to those of us who were born and raised in America. We African Americans are truly a different subculture of our main culture, but we still identify the same no matter what...we tend to have that same survival instinct...Happy Safe Holidays....(smiles)

I'm Causcasian. But, I've never even thought one time about where "The Caucasus Mountains are." Wow, I just realized that. lol I don't even consider myself American first, the first thing I think of is my "state."
So, I don't see why a Black person would be any different, after all, like me, they grew up here in America!

I dont think africa america should find it hard of accepting their roots, but rather should be proud of,because your root is your root and you cant pretend. The question i will like to ask those who dont want to accept their africa root is,if one of your finger is paining you,do you have to cut the whole arm away?andsecondly they should try their best in learning some africa cultures, and be proud of who they are.

I don't. I'm proud to be Black.
In my experience, Black African immigrants tend to deny any racial connections to Black slave descendents in America. They seem to want to associate more with any other group of Americans.
Their loss. I am Black, always will be, and will never want to change.
