It's truly hard to say. There are many moments of her life hidden from record. What we do know is she chose to be public about the seven she lived with, though whether she ever had any of them is simply not known. It is understandable a hallmark of innocence and purity would keep these things hidden but one has to turn a harsh look upon the press of the day. In an age of vicious, libellous and imaginative "journalism" seldom equalled outside the offices of the New York Times, Washington Post, and National Enquirer, one has to suspect a financial "fix" was in to keep even speculation out of the cannonical history of Snow White.
I would like to note that this is not solely a situation of a girl having celebrity thrust upon her and trying to maintain a semblance of normal life and a family striving to maintain her image through the years. In fact, it is a textbook case of how an open press benefits society. First, the family. Instead of leading productive lives they are now parasites leaching a living from licensed goods, publishing and re-publishing the accepted, official story with occasional dribbled out new lines from her diary, suing anyone at all who inadvertantly uses a phrase or reference to the story. Lives ruined by pressure to follow the easy path to riches and not to happiness.
Less obviously and missed by most except for the trampled on modern shared-experience-group (or SEGment). The icon of beauty, innocence, purity and goodness we have in Snow White lived with seven dwarfs (dwarves as their SEGment has come to be know today) and almost certainly did much more than just live with them. Given destruction of "awkward" records by the family that is only rivalled in history by Islam's destruction over the last 1,300 years of "awkward" records about Mohammed's real past and motives, we today can only speculate how deeply she... participated... in this SEGment's lives. Over the last couple hundred years, instead of being castigated and scorned, this SEGment might well have been swirled into the mainstream of our society and might have become no more objects of remark than today's red-headed men are when seen in the company of attractive women. How many lives over these centuries might have been happy and free of that scorn and ridicule? How many children might have been born who never were because she hid the facts of her years in the forest?
And all that was required was an honest, and open, press. Hide it she might have, but the public would have eventually known all and her family would have been freed from parasitic slavery and huge numbers of the dwarven SEGment over the centuries could have led normal lives. We must not just defend freedom of the press; we must REQUIRE it of those who own the machinery of the press or take that machinery from them!
