Generally this occurs with an old or sick hamster. They sleep more as they age, just as humans do. If you are worried, check for infections, weight loss, tumors/cysts or runny stool stuck on the rear of the hamster. Lastly, make sure the front 2 top teeth are not overgrown, if so, the animal cannot eat properly. If it is a young female hamster, make sure there are not any babies under her because they sleep a lot within the first week of giving birth and the week prior. Hope this helps. Been raising hamsters for about 13 years and still think each tiny one is really neat.

Do you have a running wheel for him? They need somthing to do or else they will get bored and sleep. You can get them at petsmart for about 3 bucks. If you have one make sure he has stuff to amuse him. try getting him a toilet paper roll or somthing they like these. Maybe you should play with him get him a running ball etc. Hamsters also like buddies. If they are alone they tend to get bored, their health can suffer. Consider getting him a friend. One of the same sex of course.
good luck :]

I would poke him a couple of times to see if he moves. If he does, offer him water to see if he can drink. Offer him a little carrot or piece of fruit to make sure he's ok. If he doesn't move, I'm sorry.

i would gently take him out and put him/her in one of those rolling balls on the floor sometimes that helps stimulate them into action. keep in mind there are different types of hampsters some more active than others.

you only have to ask ONCE! As long as it is eating and drinking and going to the bathroom, it's fine.
