Do your research a little better. There as not been an Intel processor released since 2004 that doesn't support 64 bits. That means all the Core 2 Duos, all the Pentium Ds, and every single Pentium 4 released over the past two years all support 64 bits. As the article says, they have to have EM64T support, which all of the above listed processors have.

There are people like me who refuse to replace all there software every few years. The last version of MS Word I bought was 1997, and I still have games that require a 32 bit OS.
So, my AMD 64 runs 32 bit XP Pro & 64 bit Ubuntu Linux as dual boot. I am using Open Office instead of Word these days anyway.

Nope, your processor must be compatible with 64-bit in order to run an 64-bit OS. Most likely a 64-bit OS will not even install on a machine with a 32-bit only processor.

If you had a fruit store, and eating apples was the latest "in thing", would you toss out all the other fruits and only sell apples? No? Why not?
Some people don't need to have the most up-to-date computers, and a computer store wouldn't just chuck half their inventory just because gaming and other uses for 64-bit tech are becoming increasingly popular.
Buy what you want and/or need, and let everyone decide for themselves what they want and/or need...

Well most applications and devices like hardwares and usb flash drives won't support 64bit machines so stores keep selling 32bit machines. I like the 64 bit because it supports bigger ram and processor capabilites. I think in future, they'll introduce 64bit machines world wide.

Basicly if you had to upgrade you pc to windows xp x64 would all your games and hardware be compatable? if the answer is yes then download a trial of xp x64 but if you can't be certain then don't use it as ALL your drivers have to be 64bit ie you can't use the drivers that come on the install cd.
and it's all based on supply and demand
