I bought a new HP for X'mas with a free Vista upgrade which will use 15gb space of my hard drive. Is Vista like Windows ME? When I had a Windows 98 upgrade to ME was a big mistake?

So far, I personally can see absolutely no reason for using Vista just my opinion and I'm sure others will disagree. Microsoft would love it if all of us switched on over, more sales, apparently harder to pirate and of course more sales. Yes I know I typed sales twice, money drives the software industry.

From what I've read about Vista iself, there are more than a few reasons to NOT switch over. Each and every time you turn on your computer with Vista, it calls home to MS. Vista requires far too much hard drive space and too much RAM to run. Vista is definitely not bug free as of yet and you can expect an almost instant update of over 75 megs with a new install.

Bottom line though is that it is all up to you, whether or not you jump right away. I'll be stripping mine out of here as soon as I finish building my other machine.

No Windows Vista is a HUGE improvement over Vista. Vista does not use 15 Gigabytes after its installed. It only needs that much space to begin installing. Vista 64 bit is also available, although 64 bit computing isnt really necessary for anything but servers for now.

I live in Indonesia, and nothing is NOT pirated here. and Vista has been here pirated since months ago. So, if you are talking about security, XP is still better (although it is also pirated here, we dont really use original software here). But of course Linux is still winning over Windows.

But, if you are not in to LINUX, and prefer Windows still, i suggest you dump your Vista until you are more informed, wait for a year or two and you ll hear Vista sucks.

Given Microsoft's track record for launching software that is stuffed with bugs, I'd say that anyone who loads Vista in the first 12 months needs their bumps felt!
If you want an arty operating system, get yourself a Mac; mac OS X is fantastic, AND reliable. (And if you insist on running Windoze, then the new Intel Macs will allow you to run both Mac OS X and Windoze).

Hopefully NOTHING will ever be as bad as ME! However, I'll be waiting a year or two before considering Vista, by which time hopefully the bugs will have been ironed out.

dont know much about vista. but expect a lot of problems initially, as all the hackers will be working overtime to get those viruses into vista. i would suggest staying with xp for now... until vista is more secure.

Windows Vista is very different, I would do it. Windows Vista has a new artsty look similar to the mac with new features, it is up to you but windows vista is worth it. To see for yourself check out videos on youtube or info on windows website.

yes, i remember that. me finally shut me until i couldn't recover. had to take it all down to an expensive shop. i bet you are right. theyh do tend to add odd bells and whistles. something you didn't mention is the advantage of sticking with the familiar. xp format works very well. i know how to use it. i started in 1985 with microsoft dos and changed over the years. me was a bastard. i would sure hestiate to change to vista until everyone raves about it. vista is for those who like base jumping and wrestling aligators.

Hi'

I may be wrong but i advise u to stay on ur current o.s! Hackers won't leave u alone. U'll have to deal with both how to use the o.s, program compatibility (u'll have a hard time seeking patches for programs to run with the o.s), new viruses...

Have a nice day!
