I don't know if this is pertinent, but when I lived in NM, I called a girl Hispanic (we were about 13) and she got VERY OFFENDED!

I think she wanted to be called "Latino"

Here are some definitions a la wikipedia:

Hispanic:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hispanic

Latino:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Latino

Mexican: (obviously)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mexican

I added some offensive ones, too, because I never know the etymology of such things, so I thought this might be imformative for others. I don't condone these terms.

I prefer Hispanic or latina!! If you were to ever call me mexican i would probably slap you or just curse you out or w/e because I'm not mexican!!!! So be nice and say latino/a or hispanic! Not all hispanics are mexican!!

Hispanic is talking about all people who are Spanish
Mexican is talking about people from Mexico
If you called a Cuban a Mexican they might be offended and vice verse
So its just safer when refereeing to them call them Hispanic

It doesn't matte to me. I don't know why someone would be offended my being called a Mexican. Just a couple years ago I heard that Hispanic is what some would rather be referred to, but why? I don't get it.

Sorry, I answered with a question.

If youre from mexico, then mexican

If you have mexican ancestry, and you were born in america, you are american. you could call yourself mexican american or american with mexican ancestry.

Hispanic encompasses all backgrounds with spanish as thier main language.
What about anyone preferring --Latino? there are many who do.

I prefer hispanic.

I prefer Latino. Very masculine sounding. Sometimes I think Chicano has a nice ring to it too.

Are you an Anglo or a honky??? Is there a need to label everyone? I find that a little bit racist our of your concern for political correctness.

Please do not take offense. It is a New Year, a time for change.

for sure... in truth, i stumble upon myself gravitating in the route of different nationalities; for sure, i have considered appropriate women from each race, yet i do not extremely "desire" one over the different ... If a lady takes position to be hispanic/mexican, what supplies? If i extremely cared about her, race does not count number

I prefer Chicana (or even Texican since I'm from Texas), but not many people use that.
Some people are scared to even say anything and I label my self as "mexican" It sounds kinda stupid, but whatever, I thinks it's stupid that we all have to have labels based on our skin. Either way I'm proud of who I am on the inside.
