California Vacation?

Hubby and I would like to plan a 3 day mini-vacation with our 2 kiddos (ages under 11) for the beginning of Feb. - - where/what place in CA can you recommend?- No Disneyland. Thanks in advance folks! & Happy New Year!!!

I would recommend Knott's Berry Farm (anahiem), Sea World(San Diego), The Beach (Santa Monica Pier) Monterey Bay Aquarium...There is really lots to do here with the kids...Hope you have fun!

Plan on coming to LA? If you want to skip Disneyland, then go to Universal Studios instead. It is less expensive than Disneyland, but still a lot of fun. It's off-season, so there are a lot of deals and hardly any lines at all, like you would see during the summer!

It is also very close to Hollywood, where you can do the Star Walk of Fame bit, see the handprints at Graumann's Chinese Theatre, go see a great show at the El Capitan Theatre, and a whole bunch of great stuff in the Hollywood area.

My brother and I flew into Vegas rented a car and drove to San Diego after spending 1 day in Vegas, then up the 101 (coastal highway) to San Fransisco. This whole trip was done in 7 days. It goes down as the best or one of the best times we have ever had. We got to visit some very neat towns in Cali. Carmel by the Sea, Hurst Mansion, Coronado, SF, the John Mirier(?) forest, think red woods, Haught Ashbery. The left coasters have never scene a cliff they didn't want to build on. Our plan was to cross the Rockies and return to Vegas via Reno, but Dec. found the mountain roads closed all ready. Instead we saw central Cali, which was very beautiful in it's own right, just at a slower pace. We intend to finish the 101 by flying into SF and going north from there. I will warn you, we drove 6-7 hours every day, stopping anytime we wanted, (the views were awesome as attested to by the 500 pictures we took) but this is a lot of time in tight confines so if you worry about it getting a little catty, you may want to avoid this type of bonding.

San Diego is great; Hearst Castle in San Simeon (not sure if the kids would get a kick out of that, 'tho); San Francisco is wonderful (am prejudiced, 'tho, since I was born/raised there!!); Fort Bragg/Mendocino area: scenic; Carmel/Monterey (fantastic aquarium in Monterey).

Lots to do in SF: typical touristy areas would be Chinatown; Pier 39 (shops, amusement, right on SF Bay); Golden Gate Park; downtown has nice shopping; Fisherman's Wharf/Ghirardelli Square: shops, food. Weather isn't the best, but not terrible either.

I wouldn't waste precious vacation time waiting in line at the theme parks. Maybe start in San Diego, see the world famous zoo. Then head north along the coast. Since you only have 3 days, you should stay within either southern california or northern california, although central california (Morro bay, etc) is also nice.

There is allot of places you can go, from desert to rain forest.
If you are in the north go to Willits and take the skunk train to Fort Bragg, there is a pygmy forest near by. Also you can drive a car through a redwood tree. and there is a strange tree house that is kind of neat

SAN Diego Of course - SeaWorld, Sunsets, Balboa park - interesting musuems such as dinousaurs, science , etc., Belmont Park - Rides, Beach, Food,etc.; SD Zoo, SD wild animal park, Old town, and much more!.......!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Your family would probably enjoy the Winchester Mystery House in Santa Maria 10 minutes away from San Jose {haunted mansion full of mystery} .................San Francisco is a really good place to go definetly {exploratorium, Alcatraz, fisherman's warf, pier 39, golden gate bridge, subways, trolleys, china town,,....}...........................Also Hollywood universal studios - shows such as fear factor, shrek, van helsing,etc., Coca cola water park, nickelodeon water park, king kong robot. and alot fun more for a family to enjoy.............................................and even the hearst castle in San Simeon but not for kids {may be}/.?...............

Good luck, try not to fall asleep going on vacation anywhere here everything is so regulated and restricted. You want to have some fun? Need to go somewhere else.

Go to Lake Tahoe. You can go skiing, snowboarding, boating, hiking, biking, golfing, and gambling. It is a spectacular place with great scenery.
