Most of the time they hitch a ride on live plants you might have bought. Or eggs were in the water column when the fish were bagged at the store.

Snails are stowaways from the pet store. They start out very small so they are often unnoticed. They are usually harmless and can actually help keep the aquarium clean but sometimes they over populate. You can buy inexpensive products (from the same pet store where the snails originated from in the first place) to control the problem but make sure you get advise and read the label carefully so you don't accidentally control more than just the snail population in your aquarium.

Actually, i thought the very same thing! but indeed thats not the case. They actually come from one aquarium to another. for example,.....live plants, water contact. baby snails are extremely tiny, if you look very closely - you'll see tiny little specks moving around. Just when you thought you only had 2 or 3 and it was cute, you soon realized it was becoming a problem...right? are they multiplying quickly? There is a solution! it's a product called "Had a Snail " it works wonders!!

Most likely snail eggs hitched a ride in the water that was in the bag with your new fish. They also hitch rides on plants.
Then once the eggs are in your tank, you'll have snails in no time.
This is one reason why you should never empty the water into the tank from the bag your fish came in.

Snails usually come in on new plants. You may not always see them because the babies are very small. There may also be eggs somewhere where you don't see them.

Snails are egg-layers, so there were most likely eggs attached to a plant or some other item and they just hatch from the eggs.

they come in the water from the plant or fish you bought at the store. They actually help keep your tank clean by sliding all over the place eating algae. I wouldn't worry about them unless they're eating your plants.
