On my minivan, the warning light comes on when the fuse blows.
The fuse is shared with the rear windshield wiper, and it has a problem that blows fuses when i accidentally use the wiper on a dry window.
don't know about your car, but could be similar problem.

Are you sure no one stole your air bags, that happens in California. Not something to mess with get it into a shop and have it checked

One of the sensors behind the bumper that sets the bag off may have failed.
