Does anyone remember a fairy tale about a long bearded sleeping man. I think that he had been sleeping for a hundred years. I thought it was the story of Rumplestiltskin, but I don't think that is right.

Not a fairy tale, necessarily, but a story written by American author Washington Irving, titled Rip Van Winkle. Rip wanders into the Catskill Mountains, meets and plays a bowling game with little men, drinks with them, then falls asleep. When he wakes, he has grown incredibly old, and when he finally makes his way home, he finds the town has changed, his house is occupied by strangers, and almost no one remembers him at all.
