Hi again, Kevin. I'm from Ohio in the United States (per your last question). To answer this one, the Joseon Dynasty may be regarded as a golden age because it lasted longer than most royal dynasties thus bringing a certain amount of stability to Korea. This stability allowed progress to be made in culture, trade, literature, technology and science. The first Asian sundial was invented in Korea during the early part of the dynasty, as was the rain gauge. The metal printing press (invented in an earlier dynasty) was exported to China. Unfortunately, Japan and China invaded Korea during the 1500's and 1600's and as a result Korea became more and more isolationist. It became know as the Hermit Kingdom. The Joseon Dynasty still has a profound effect on modern Korea's language and system of thought.
