get a dvd player that supports the xvid files (or divx)

Phillips has one that can play it and it is cheap. ($70 ish)

it takes forever to convert from format to format.

nero is a easy way to do but it would be a heck of a lot faster to get a new dvd player and just burn a data dvd. If you do that you don't have to re encode the files. You will fit a ton more on each dvd and it will take five min to burn. Converting can take hours.

take a look at this list for a dvd player that plays divx:

I Use Nero, Theres Other Programs Like DVD Santa, And You Might Only Be Able To Put 1 To 3 On Each Disk, Unless You Have DVD-9

as tuken has stated Nero will work to burn the files to a disk, however, in order to burn them to a DVD so that they will play on your home theater DVD player you will probably have to convert them from their current file type (.avi, .wmv, .wma and so on) to a vob file. i have done alot of searching on the Internet to find a program that will do this with very little success, if you find one please let me know about it... but, if you DVD player is less than 6 months old and you have a newer version of Nero then Nero should give you several options on how you would like to burn your DVD, just make sure you read your owners manual for the DVD player in order to burn the DVD in a file format the player will be able to read... you should also use a re-writable DVD to do this as it may take a few attempts to find a format that Nero will burn and play in your DVD player!!!
