possibly a bad universal joint or half shaft

What kind of noises? That's 'need to know' info. Because reverse and low gears are geared lower, then you might be hearing the normal "winding" or "whirring" that they make when in use.
That would be my guess because you have mentioned both gears.

Sounds like it could be a lose motor or transmission mount.
The noise would not happen after the load is taken off the engine and you are cruising..

An idea.

it could be something is loose. Or it could be that you have some worn bushings, but it is totally true that you do not give nearly enough information. Like the make of the care, front or rear noise, front or rear drive,

It depends on what type of Transmission you have, if it is a automatic it could be a u-joint if it's a manual transmission it could be u-joint, clutch throwout gearing, or bad gear in rearend.

What do you mean 'A NOISE' ? Is it just louder an making like, an R.C. car sound? This is normal. It's just the tranny winding up.

Possibility you have low fluids in the transmission. I suggest you check the fluids.
