ok, it happens to my old laptop. It was fine half an hour ago !!..I checked the bios boot priority thing, and put "hard disk" right on top of the list. Just now, I tried repairing it using the windows xp bootable cd, when it says something about not finding a hard disk drive. I also noticed in the bios Main menu, the primary master is set to "none" while the secondary is the cd-rom. Does this mean my hard disk is dead ? is there anything i can do about this ?

Kiss your hard drive good bye. If it is not being recognized in the bios, and you tried to boot it and tried to boot it with a bootable cd, it is most likely dead. You should be able to buy a hard drive for your laptop and reinstall the operating system to it, but all your data is most likely gone...Trust me, I feel your pain!

I had the same issue happen to a system i have, it was very annoying, I fixed the issue but how I fixed this issue is not going to work on a laptop. Howie I hate to seem cynical but this is my suggesting, go to a pawn shop and buy you a small caliber hand gun, take your laptop and a few beers out in the country with a few of your Buddy's and target practice. What you will spend on a new hard drive you could boot in a few more bucks and get a new laptop. sorry, but I thought this would ease the pain. good luck.

Run the CMOS setup again. This time change the "none" to auto and the computer should find the hard drive... if it's there and not dead or disconnected. Your problem could simply be a loose data cable or a bad power connection to the hard disk.

you have a partion error. The hard disk cable may be loose, the hdeprom may be zapped, your hard disk may be dead. these are all hardware problems. you need a technician to deal with this.

What is the age of the laptop...May be a "Compatibility" issue.
