It depends on your tastes. Do not let others to tell you what you must own in your collection. Explore, challenge yourself. There are some movies that are more typical in a majority of people's collections, but so what? You were given your own tastes, opinions and attitudes-do not become somebody else's clone.
There are some movies that should be seen by the majority of people at least once, but whether everybody should own a copy is debatable. I also refrain from forcing people to watch movies they do not want to see. Knowing the basic plot might be enough most of the time.
Here is my list of suggested movies to see, make up your own mind if you have to own the movie:

Yeah thoese are great if you want a bunch of crappy movies!
Most of the AFI top 100 is great, I got them all just for completeness.
Also alot of the top 250 films on imdb are the greatest ever made.
Everysingle on of Stanley Kubericks is a must.
But these are just for me...

No guy, burning dosen't rely on the form of the document, you may desire to burn any junk directly to a cd or dvd. word : Nero dosen't understand .rar or .zip formats meaning you may't burn them applying Nero.
