Which is most important to you at this point? How long have you been in the relationship? Is it someone you could see yourself staying with forever? If not, then don't base your decisions on them. And even if you think you could marry them, don't base a life changing decision solely on what they want. I decided not to go back to school because my boyfirend, who is now my husband, didn't want me to at the time. Now, I hate to say, but I hold resentment towards him for holding me back. If they love you and want whats best for you, they want you to succeed and be happy! So you have to decide which you want more! And no response on here can tell you which one you wnat most! But never base a decision only on what SOMEONE else wants for YOUR life!

Relationship is different then Family.
If your asking strictly about Boyfriend/husband, then we need more information to answer correctly.
Basically if your under the age of 30 and have been dating only a few years, then career. If your over 30 and have been dating many years then it is relationship.
Basically between high school and 35 you should concentrate on career. Maybe until your 40s unless you have children.
Everything w/o children is just a matter of opinion, but when you have children, you have a responsibility. (as long as one of you are there)
Do you hear all the questions from really screwed up people? Those questions come from kids that parents made their career their priority. (or just crappy parents)
Good luck.! Your asking the age old question, that women ask since they started working.
There is also nothing wrong with not having children.

personally i would plan my life around both. the thing is when you have a career it is for life. you plan to work in the field for the rest of you life. when you get into a relationship you plan to be with that person long term. but if you are serious about your career and relationship you should be able to make time for both you job and your family. if you get down to the point that you have to choose between them both, there is a problem and one or the other is being neglected.

This might be an easier question to answer if you are young and just starting out on your career... but when you are my age, and you've worked hard to get where you are at...and you really enjoy your life's work... it is a harder question to answer! However, I have made this decision - and chose the relationship. See, I worked long and hard to get the best guy in the world... and I am willing to relocate if necessary! Actually... I was willing to STAY instead of relocating to a better job.... but you get my point. I eventually chose relationship over career. He appreciates it too... lol...

I think I would plan it around my career because if your relationship is strong it will last, but if you relationship doesn't last you still have your career to get by on, to support your self.

Career, definitely. Almost everything I do is related to my future career in some way. In fact, I care about it so much that I've decided not to risk derailing it by having a relationship.

It has to be a clever mix of both. A job is demanding and so is a relationship, especially when you finally have a family. You have to work ,so 8 hours of the day you need to concentrate on the job. When you go home you will be concerned with family..you have to learn to balance both. Don't worry, you'll learn how to do it.
