where do i get the best appraisal for a very old stamp collection?

it was given to me and i have no idea about stamps other that it is very old and very extensive

It might be worth while to check out a few stamps first-go look in a dealers store.But if it's really a large collection,it might be just as easy to invest in having an appraiser look at it.Very old does not really mean really valuable;however if you can swing the cost(it can be several hundred dollars)for an appraiser then you'd know at least what you own,and then make an informed decision.I'd look around first,just to check what is worth whatIf you have some information,it's not so easy for people to take advantage.Remember you will never get selling the amount you would pay to buy the same stamp.Good luck finding what you now own.

I would take it to stores that specialize in that sort of thing. Small hobby stores (not Michaels or Hobby Lobby) might have someone there that might be able to tell you something. You could also go to an antique appraiser, though you would have to ask for someone specializing in small collectibles.

locate a stamp broking service and practice him your series. different sources: stamp club, stamp magazines, stamp reference books. ask Librarian on the Library to reveal you the stamp e book. you may't borrow the e book, merely verify out it in examining room. then you truthfully have an answer for loose.
