In Final Fantasy V Advance what do the piano levels mean?

There's been a couple of times where I go up to a piano and play it, then a dialogue box comes up, telling me my "piano skills" went up. What does that mean?

i think they're tied into the bard class.

when you go into one town, there is a bard in there, and he'll give you a song for your bard class, if you play his piano - however, he doesn't tell you to play, you need to just do it.

i think there might be some times, further in the game than i am, that you will get songs only if your "piano level" is high enough

regardless of anything else, i always play the piano - just in case!
