I don't see the problem but my mom says that the chemicals will run through my system to my breast milk. But I keep getting mixed reactions about this...so is it safe or not??

Hair Care Products (dyes, permanents, relaxers)

There is no evidence that hair care products (dyes, permanents, or hair relaxers) used by a nursing mom have any effect on her breastfeed

http://www.kellymom.com/health/lifestyle/mom-activities.html#haircare

According to theBREASTFEEDING ANSWER BOOK, published by La Leche League International, no evidence exists that the nursing mother's use of hair-care products, such as hair dyes and permanents, has any effect on her breastfeeding baby. When a mother uses hair-care products, some of the chemicals will be absorbed through her skin. If her scalp is healthy and intact, less will be absorbed than if the skin on her scalp is scratched or abraded.

Theres no evidence one way or the other.

If youre really concerned about it, pump a meal in advance, color your hair, wait an hour or two, and pump and toss.

There is absolutely no proof that coloring your hair effects your body enough to effect a pregnancy, or breast milk. But a lot of women like to be cautious.

Generally any toxins you come into contact with take about a few hours to leave your system, so pumping and tossing can solve that issue.

Mystic gave a wonderful answer and great links for reliable sources!

Just make sure baby is no where around the dye, which means you may need to pump a bottle of milk to get your hair dyed.
